100+ years of surgery experience was shared last evening. Drs Kalish, Jacobs and Orloff rocked the house! What an honor it was to participate with three of the brightest Podiatric Surgeons ever. Everyone who listened learned many many distinctions that each of us can us put into our practices today. Subjects covered, included: handling a bad outcome, technology vs. costs, and tricks and techniques when talking with patients. This hour should be on the MP3 player of every member of our profession.

Dr. Patrick A. DeHeer, DPM is in practice in Central Indiana , is ABPS certified in Reconstructive Foot and Ankle Surgery. Dr. DeHeer severs as President-Elect and chairman of the Continuing Education Committee for the IPMA.

Dr. DeHeer serves as the team podiatrist for the Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever. He is on the Editorial Board for Podiatry Today and serves as a regular blogger for them also.

Dr. DeHeer has been awarded the Humanitarian Award for 2011 by the APMA. He has been on 17 medical mission trips around the world and is the founder and President of the non-profit organization, Wound Care Haiti.

Dr. Michael Downey has been on the “bleeding” edge of podiatric surgery for more then 20 years. Dr. Downey is currently the Chief of the Division of Podiatric Surgery at a teaching hospital in the University of Pennsylvania (Ivy League) system, as well as a Partner in a large single specialty private practice with five offices. Prior to this, he w as professor and chairman of surgery at the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Downey’s is a senior faculty member at the Podiatry Institute, an author with over 25 chapters in 12 different textbooks, 20+ peered reviewed scholarly articles, 300+ presentations. Dr. Downey is the Co-editor of McGlamry’s Comprehensive Textbook of Foot and Ankle Surgery, 3rd edition and Co-editor of Comprehensive Textbook of Foot Surgery, 2nd edition.
