Robert Chelin, DPM Past President of the Federation of International Podiatrists (FIP) as well as its Chairman of World Foot Health Awareness Month.
Robert has been keeping Ontario on its feet since 1983 with an office in the cente of the city of Toronto and in the Durham region which is situated 30 miles outside the city. Upon graduating from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1978, he then went on to study in Chicago for 4 years at the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine, graduating in 1982 with Doctor in Podiatric Medicine (DPM) . He then completed his training by doing a 6-month preceptorship in Toronto and Vancouver. Even today Robert continues to strive and upgrade his skills due to his thirst for knowledge. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Ambulatory Foot and Ankle Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Pain Management.
Robert has served both as President of the Canadian and the Ontario Podiatric Medical Associations. In May of 2010 he completed a three year term as President of the International Federation of Podiatrists (FIP). There he chaired and initiated the FIP's World Foot Health Awareness Month. Under his administration the FIP grew from 14 to 23 countries and even today he has been one of the the driving forces to its 31 country membership. He currenly Chairs the FIP economic development committee and sits on the FIP World Congress Oragnizing committee for its 2013 world congress in Rome Itaty. Robert cultivated a relationship with Special Olympics International that culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in Washington DC in March of 2010 in recogntion of the FIP's great work in promoting SOI's Healthy Athletes programme internationally. This was the first time SOI has done so with any health organization other than doin so with the Peace Corps.
Robert lso served as the 2009 APMA local chair for the APMA Annual Scientific meeting in Toronto, Canada. He has also the opportunity to address the APMA's HOD in 2008,2009,and 2010 on behalf of the global podiatry community.
A part from his political accomplishments, Robert has been quite an innovative leader in the field of podiatry in Canada as he has been a pioneer in the introduction of ie: Minimal Incision Surgery (MIS), Endoscopic Plantar Fasciotomy (EPF), Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) and Injectable Foot Implants (IPF).
